Basketball Play - 2 Stack

2 Stack

Kyle Gilreath 09/29/2013

This is simple yet very effective zone offense play that is one of my favorites. As 1 dribbles over, 2 overloads the floor making this play difficult to guard every option. After 5 screens in, he should try to post up hard on X5. See More

The Michigan Wolverines used this set against the Louisville Cardinals in the NCAA Championship game. The set incorporates a lot of cuts and rub screens to free players for possible shots. What makes this so efffective is the "reads" the Wolverines make in order to get the shots they want against the match-up zone of the Cardinals. See More

Basketball Play - 2 Power Gap

2 Power Gap

Kyle Gilreath 08/16/2013

This zone offense play from Wichita State was run versus Louisville in the 2013 Final Four. This play from Gregg Marshall is one of my favorite zone offense actions of all time; mostly because Billy Donovan runs it frequently, and very well. Setting the pick & roll on the top of the zone forces X2 to help or switch onto the ball. On the pass from 2 to 1, X2 is caught trying to recover so X4 starts sliding up to stunt. Making for a perfect opportunity for 5 to duck in hard on the zone for a post-up. For every play Wichita State ran during the 2013 Final Four check out my eBook, “Championship Execution”. See More

Basketball Play - Cutters

Cutters

Kyle Gilreath 08/16/2013

Michigan's John Beilein ran this play versus Syracuse in the 2013 Final Four in Atlanta. This action consists of tons of movement forcing the defense to communicate and scramble around. As the defense scrambles to match-up to cutters, it is a great opportunity to set a pick & roll on the zone. To see every play Michigan ran during the 2013 Final Four check out my ebook, Championship Execution. See More

Basketball Play - Drift

Drift

Here is a quick hitter against the zone that St. Louis ran this past season. This is an effective set because of the stress it places on the strong side defender on the block whether or not to stay home or to guard the corner to prevent a 3. If the point guard reads the defender properly, this set should lead to an uncontested lay-up or three point shot. See More

Basketball Play - High Post Isolation

High Post Isolation

This was a nice action run by John Beilein against the Syracuse 2-3 Zone On the wing pass, the Zone is forced to make decisions on priority coverage In this situation, x4 got caught and 5 was able to hit 4 on the baseline for an easy lay-up - in the next sequence when this play was run, the defense adjusts, but this time 5 is free for an elbow jumper See More
