Basketball Play - Michigan - 31 FLOP Iso

Michigan - 31 FLOP Iso

Doug Brotherton 03/19/2017

After Louisville's loss in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, Coach Pitino mentioned the challenge from keeping Michigan away from their right hand. Michigan is a team that prefers to drive right, and they do a great job designing actions that play to this strength. Michigan stretched their lead to 4, with under 4 minutes left, by running this set. It allowed Wagner (5-man) to get a right handed drive to the rim, as the Louisville defender worried about the action on the left side of the floor. The Wolverines also exchanged their weak side players, to occupy the weak side help. This set has multiple options, but eventually becomes a high post isolation. Look for more of this, as Michigan advances to the Sweet 16. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan "Wide Pin Flare"

Michigan "Wide Pin Flare"

Gibson Pyper 03/19/2017

A part of Michigan's motion offense, if the wide pindown is covered and the big opening is not open they default into this action. This is triggered by the point guard looking back to the wing where the pass came from and he dives backdoor. The corner fills and then looks to drive into the middle of the lane and the point guard cuts off the big setting a flare screen for a shot. 3 in the corner/opposite block must clear to the opposite side to prevent any help. Basketball Play - Northwestern Early Offense

Northwestern Early Offense

Dana Beszczynski 03/18/2017

What makes Chris Collins Offensive schemes at Northwestern are the multiple screening & cutting actions in each series. The sets are designed to get action off the ball keeping the Defense occupied, forcing decisions in rotations which if to late, result in open shots. This set has all those options included and is one of the best sets I've seen thus far in the NCAA Tournament. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA - STS Flare PNR Short Roll

UCLA - STS Flare PNR Short Roll

Aseem Rastogi 03/18/2017

With 3:25 left in the game v. Kent State, UCLA ran this quick hitter to get Bryce Alford (2) a good look at a three, as well as a short roll for their skilled big man Welsh (5). UCLA uses Alford as the initial ball screener, freeing him up to come off a flare screen in a screen the screener action for a quick look at the rim. The 5 will end the play with a turnaround ball screen and short roll for a jumper. See More

Basketball Play - 2 out 3 in Motion - Sample Basic Action

2 out 3 in Motion - Sample Basic Action

Andrew Lacey 03/18/2017

Today’s basketball offense breakdown comes from the 2 Out 3 In Motion Offense. Iowa State used the concepts once used by Steve Alford when he was at New Mexico. The 2 Out 3 In motion offense is very unique, which allows the post area to become open for isolation plays and opens up dribble penetration and backdoor cut plays. Iowa State made this key adjustment in the first half against Nevada when they struggled to get much out of their ball screen sets. See More
