Basketball Play - Loop Hi-Lo

Loop Hi-Lo

Kyle Gilreath 12/19/2013

Tuesday night in their nail biting loss to South Florida, Florida Gulf Coast ran this half-court set for a post hi-low isolation. After spending many years at Kansas under Bill Self, it is no surprise that FGCU coach Joe Dooley frequents hi-low actions. If 3 can set a solid screen the goal is for 5 to try and catch in the middle of the paint for a quick score. However, if X5 fights over top of the screen of X3 and X5 switch, 5 is to seal his man on the top side for a lob pass over the top for a finish. See More

Ohio State 23 Lob

Dana Beszczynski 12/17/2013

This was a lob set run by the Ohio State Buckeyes in their ACC/BIG 10 game against the Maryland Terrapins The middle drag screen starts the play off with the weak side guard darting to the post and stepping up to the elbow to set a backscreen on x5 The timing of the backscreen is key to the success of this play See More

Basketball Play - Double Swing

Double Swing

Kyle Gilreath 12/13/2013

While playing around on the FastDraw iPad app this morning I actually ended up drawing a post-up play that I really like. This play is most effective with proper timing. 5 should be coming off the backscreen from 4 and 1 as 3 is receiving the pass. If X1 or X4 double down to help on the catch, look to quickly kick the ball out for a shot. See More

Basketball Play - Motion Back Again

Motion Back Again

Kyle Gilreath 12/11/2013

Last night in their win over the Kansas Jayhawks, the Florida Gators ran this half-court set which involved multiple screening actions leading to a middle pick & roll. As 1 came off the pick & roll he was able to find 3 spotting up in the corner. Due to the defensive rotations, this allowed 5 to post-up on the block. See More

Basketball Play - Horns Twist

Horns Twist

Kyle Gilreath 12/03/2013

Last night in their win over Oklahoma State, the Memphis Tigers ran this post iso action in the 2nd half. One small piece of this play that is very popular is sending the post passer through to the weak side. Many coaches keep their post passer strong side and this allows for an easy dig or double down which disturbs the post isolation. See More

Basketball Play - Colorado 1-4 High Offense

Colorado 1-4 High Offense

Alan Peel 12/03/2013

This is a diagram of a play that Colorado ran as a set play against Harvard in their game on November 24. The play can result in a three-point shot or a post feed. The play also helps Colorado transition into their half court motion offense if they do not score off of the set play. Basketball Play - Nuggets Flare Hammer

Nuggets Flare Hammer

Adam Spinella 11/21/2013

The Denver Nuggets run this misdirection Hammer set to free up a shooter in the corner. The use a flare screen at the top to occupy the help defense, forcing a weak side defender to rotate towards the ball. That rotation sets up an opening in the corner for a shooter to make a cut to. See More

Basketball Play - MSU 1-4 High Lob

MSU 1-4 High Lob

Dana Beszczynski 11/16/2013

The Michigan State Spartans played the Kentucky Wildcats on Tueday night in the Champions Classic at the United Center in Chicago. This was an early season match-up of numbers 1 & 2 in the polls. Kentucky came in with a vaunted recruiting class and the two coach's are surely one day too be in the Hall of Fame. This play was run by Tom Izzo's Spartans when they needed a basket. It is a well designed play out of the 1-4 High Set. What makes this play so effective is the weak side cutting action eliminating any helpside defender. The key to this play is the screen from the 5 man on the PG's defender. Here the 5 man sets a perfect screen on x1 setting up the pass from 4 for 1 who puts in the lay-up. See More
