Basketball Play - Slice Stagger STS (1-3-1)

Slice Stagger STS (1-3-1)

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 1-3-1 alignment. Some preliminary action sets up the screen the screener. The slice screen at the elbow is the first read, and hopefully draws some help defense, before the shooter comes off the stagger for a three-point look. Basketball Play - Tennessee Volunteers - Tandem STS

Tennessee Volunteers - Tandem STS

Tennessee ran this early in their NCAA tournament game against Oregon State to get a wide open look at a 3 point shot. They used a unique start with 2 curling around the post tandem at the free throw line. As the ball is reversed 2 sets the back screen for 1 to initate the screen the screener action. 2 then cuts to the top to receive the pass from 4 for the shot. Basketball Play - Michigan State Spartans - Elbow Away STS

Michigan State Spartans - Elbow Away STS

Michigan State runs a plethora of "Elbow" actions. This one provides a primary option to get the ball to 5 in the post and a secondary option for 1 up top off the screen the screener action. #Top25XsOs: Honorable Mention Teams | Teams 25-21 | Teams 20-16 | Teams 15-11 | Teams 10-6 | Teams 5-1 *New customers use discount code SAVE10 at purchase* See More

Basketball Play - Indiana Hoosiers - Flip Shuffle STS

Indiana Hoosiers - Flip Shuffle STS

Dustin Cooper 10/04/2018

This is great quick hitter used after a timeout by Coach Archie Miller. I like this set because it uses some false motion followed with a screen the screener action that really puts pressure on the defense to communicate. As seen in the video clip below, the defenders do not switch correctly which leads to a wide open three. TIPS: Coaches incorporate false motion combined with STS actions! Give the defense a "dummy" look before entering your STS look. See More
