Basketball Play - Back

Back

John Leonzo 06/11/2013

Here is a set that Butler ran often for Gordon Hayward (3 in this set) to get him an ISO opportunity on his favorite side of the court. 2 cutting hard off of the stagger screen is essential so that x3 helps, giving 5 a great opportunity and angle to flare 3 out to the wing. Misdirection feel of this play by having all of the action go to the weak side up until the point of the flare from 5 also helps make this an effective set. See More

NBA Play of the Day June 4: Miami Heat Post Sneak - Start Game

Kyle Gilreath 06/04/2013

During Game 7 of last night's ECF between the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers, the Heat won the tip-off to start the game and ran this quick hitter to try and get Wade going early. Wade has been struggling throughout the Playoffs and there is no better way to ignite a player than by showing your confidence in them running the first play of the game for them. Unfortunately for Wade and the Heat, Roy Hibbert quickly rotated to prevent the easy lay-up. See More

Here is a set play that was run often by the Pitt Panthers over the course of this last college basketball season. This play starts off with a basic flex action and then develops into a back screen for a lob opportunity and then finishes with a screen the screener action to get an open three. This play is great because the ball is changing sides of the floor, you have action going to the basket and away from the basket, and also flows right out of transition. See More

On the catch, 2 cuts under basket to left corner. 4 and 5 screen for 2 to occupy their defenders as 3 drives down the lane to score one on one. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - Pacers Dribble Weave

Pacers Dribble Weave

Coach Czes 05/31/2013

The Pacers ran this great action just before halftime in Game 5 of the 2013 ECF versus the Miami Heat. Unfortunately, David West missed the lay-up. The play worked so well because West's defender (Bosh) lost track of him cutting baseline and the screener's defender (Anderson) did not open up to help, allowing West to seal him under the basket. Basketball Play - Dribble Weave

Dribble Weave

Kyle Gilreath 05/31/2013

Trying to head into halftime with much needed momentum in Game 5 of the ECF versus the Miami Heat, Pacers' head coach Frank Vogel drew up this action that worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, David West missed the point blank lay-up. What made this play so successful was that Chris Bosh (guarding West) fell asleep ball watching and didn't see West cut behind his head. Basketball Play - Drift

Drift

John Leonzo 05/30/2013

Here is a quick hitter against the zone that St. Louis ran this past season. This is an effective set because of the stress it places on the strong side defender on the block whether or not to stay home or to guard the corner to prevent a 3. If the point guard reads the defender properly, this set should lead to an uncontested lay-up or three point shot. See More

Basketball Play - High Post Isolation

High Post Isolation

Dana Beszczynski 05/30/2013

This was a nice action run by John Beilein against the Syracuse 2-3 Zone On the wing pass, the Zone is forced to make decisions on priority coverage In this situation, x4 got caught and 5 was able to hit 4 on the baseline for an easy lay-up - in the next sequence when this play was run, the defense adjusts, but this time 5 is free for an elbow jumper See More

Basketball Play - Zipper 3

Zipper 3

John Leonzo 05/29/2013

Here is a zipper set that is run to get the ball in the hands of your best decision maker (1 in this play) and gives you plenty of scoring oppertunities. The spurs run a variation of this play with much success by putting Parker at the 1. Ginobli at the 2 (who can get a 3 on the extra pass from 3) and Danny Green at the 3. The skills of these players puts a lot of stress on the defense and makes this quick hitter hard to guard. See More
