Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is another option out of a Horns look. Entering the ball at the elbow initiates "Elbow" pinch post action. In this example, the ballhandler goes to the strong side, initiating Elbow Strong, or strong side split action. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a basic Horns set, with a common second side action to the play. It is important to teach and look for every read: 1. 1 hits 5 on the roll after screen 2. 4 pops and looks for shot if open 3. 4 looks for hi-lo entry to 5 4. 4 swings to side P/R with 2 5. 5 flashes/ducks-in middle, 4 pops to range See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawNorthern Iowa ran this set early in the game against Wichita State on 2/28/15. There are two ways to look at this play: 1. A quick hitter with 3 options. 2. A modified entry into the flex offense. *If all 3 options are covered you can see that if the 5 moves to the corner the set ends up in an easy transition to a continuous flex offense. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawWichita State ran this set for shooter Ron Baker on 2/28/15 against UNI. This is a simple two action look with multiple options for the preferred shooter to read. This is a great early offense set that can lead to a teams motion offense or two man game if the initial shot is not open. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawSet from Donnie Tyndall that he ran at the end of the 1st half vs. Vanderbilt on 2/26/15. Multiple actions that turn into an isolation set or a two man game. Great way to get the ball to your best player in space if he/she is not your point guard. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawA flare screen wrinkle to the Flex Offense Instead of the backscreen, downscreen action of the traditional flex, the flex screener arcs wide and flare screens for the high elbow. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawIncreasingly at the collegiate and even high school levels, teams are running ball screen sets. As the postseason nears and high level teams remain, offenses must be prepared for all different styles of defensive play. Some nuanced defensive teams will throw a counter to good ball screen offenses – known as icing. Icing a ball screen occurs on side ball screens, where the man guarding the ball squares his shoulders to the sideline and does not let the ball go middle. The man guarding the screener does not hedge the screen, instead being ready to contain the ball as it gets driven towards the baseline. He contains, the original defender recovers and the man guarding the screener is in position to take away any rolls to the rim. The most obvious counter to icing a ball screen is hitting the pick-and-pop game, since coverage on the screener is non-existent at the moment the ball gets driven baseline. After that, teams adjust to set alley screens which lead the ball handler to the baseline. However, coaches of ball screen-heavy offenses may consider putting in a counter during the postseason. If your side ball screen set usually happens with a filled corner on the side of the screen, this play is a good way to put the pressure on the defense to decide how much they value defending your shooters.
