Basketball Play - Dartmouth: Diamond

Dartmouth: Diamond

James Ponchak 03/09/2015

Here is the baseline out of bounds play that Dartmouth ran with 1.9 seconds left to beat Yale 59 to 58 on Saturday March 7, 2015. Dartmouth was down 1 at the time and scored on the lob to 5 who caught the ball and made the layup for an and 1 to win the game. A three for 1 on the wing is also a good option off of this action if you need a three. See More

Late Game SLOB from Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings. Vandy ran this set late in the game against Florida on Feb. 18 down 2. This set has multiple options for a lob or 3. Player positioning: 1 should be your best passer, 2 should be your best shooter, 5 should be your best rim finisher. See More

Post Boomerang

Kyle Gilreath 03/06/2015

March 5, 2015 - Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau drew up this marvelous sideline out-of-bounds play to give Chicago the go head basket and eventually defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder. Having a dominate and skilled (passing) big in the post helps, being only down 1 Gasol had the option for a quick turn and score but trusted his teammate E'Twaun Moore for the shot. See More

Basketball Play - Chris Mooney Richmond Spiders Inbounds Slip Play

Chris Mooney Richmond Spiders Inbounds Slip Play

Scott Peterman 03/04/2015

Chris Mooney and his Richmond Spiders have been very successful on their inbounds plays this year. They beat #22 VCU Rams last wednesday. They used this inbounds play to force a second overtime. Coach Mooney thought that it was important for his inbounds an waited a split second for T.J. (receiver) to get free on the other side of the basket and didn't throw it to him as soon as he slipped free. Coach Shaka Smart remarked that he would love to have that play back again. Basketball Play - End of Clock ISO

End of Clock ISO

Andrew Greer 02/28/2015

Set from Donnie Tyndall that he ran at the end of the 1st half vs. Vanderbilt on 2/26/15. Multiple actions that turn into an isolation set or a two man game. Great way to get the ball to your best player in space if he/she is not your point guard. See More

Basketball Play - Zipper Down Quick

Zipper Down Quick

Kyle Gilreath 02/26/2015

Last night late in their game vs the Houston Rockets, LA Clippers head coach Doc Rivers drew up this sideline out-of-bounds play in a timeout to get a 3-pointer for JJ Redick. While the shot didn't go in, and it wasn't exactly a clean look, the initial action and options were great and ones that can be tweaked for success. See More

Basketball Play - Flat Double

Flat Double

Kyle Gilreath 02/19/2015

Billy Donovan's Florida Gators ran this baseline out of bounds play vs Vanderbilt to give them the go-ahead bucket with 2 seconds remaining to eventually clinch the game. The ballscreen action after the ball is inbounded is great and occupies the eyes of the weak side defense, which allowed for the backdoor dunk. See More

Late game situations are becoming more important as the talent gap in all levels get closer. Here is a set that we used when I was at Pinecrest that allowed us to bring our shooter from the weak side to the strong side as the defense defended the drive. You can easily put your number 1 scoring option in the 3 spot as an adjustment. See More

Basketball Play - Celtic EOG Stagger

Celtic EOG Stagger

Lucas Shapiro 02/12/2015

This is a sideline out-of-bounds play that Brad Stevens has been running for the Celtics late in games. It has been successful both times too. There is a little misdirection with the stagger screen that gives your team a great look for your shooting guard. It is tough to defend because of the multiple options it offers. See More

Basketball Play - CSU 5 Man Iso & USF Side Elevator (2 plays)

CSU 5 Man Iso & USF Side Elevator (2 plays)

Kevin Bruinsma 02/03/2015

Tied at 59-59 with under two minutes to go in a Non-Conference game between Cleveland State/San Francsico. The first diagram & Video is the CSU 5 Man Iso. #15 Anton Grady is their cornerstone player and in a big situation they love to clear out the side and let him either score or distribute. In this clip he kicks it out to the corner for a huge 3. San Francsico then took the ball out and pushed it up the floor right into a side elevator screen for #32 Derksen who is their best scoring wing. Their action was so successful because of how smoothly they got into it and executed after giving up a big 3. See More

Basketball Play - YSU Cycle for 3

YSU Cycle for 3

Kevin Bruinsma 01/30/2015

Down 3 last night at Detroit we diagramed this play in a timeout to free up our best 3 point shooter while giving our PG the chance to drive it 1 on 1 with the entire side of the floor cleared for him. It forced Detroit to overhelp, and led to a wide open 3-pointer which we hit to send the game into overtime. The 5 sprinting up and acting like he was going to set a screen before he set the second screen of the stagger was a great touch as Detroit "Downs" ball screens. The stagger was successful and our 2 was able to drive it to force Detroit to help even more before kicking it out. The extra passes led to a wide open jumper. See More

We use a lot of ball screens in our basic offensive movement to create advantages for easy scoring opportunities. Here is a simple Box Set alignment that utilitizes downscreens and cross screens to get the defense moving before setting the ball screen at the top of the key. See More

Basketball Play - UIC BLOB Screen-Screener

UIC BLOB Screen-Screener

Kevin Bruinsma 01/24/2015

After Depaul hit the 3 to put them ahead over UIC the Flames had a chance to respond for the win. With the ball out of bounds underneath the Depaul basket, UIC took a timeout and diagramed a screen the screener play with 1.8 seconds on the clock. The play got UIC a wide open three from the ball side wing for the win. With such a short clock the Depaul defenders were caught between switching and trailing their own guys. The key to this entire action is the sharp jab step taken towards the rim, and then the screen for the man cutting right to the rim. That put Depaul’s defense in catch-up mode. See More
