Basketball Play - Kansas - SLOB Iverson Lob

Kansas - SLOB Iverson Lob

Matt Wheeler 03/24/2017

Kansas finished off a run with this SLOB play in their sweet sixteen game against Purdue. 1 makes a zipper cut to receive the inbounds pass from 4. 4 makes an Iverson cut off of screens from 3 & 5. Once x4 curls over the top of 5, x5 has to provide help at the rim. In this play he didn't and 4 was able to get the lob dunk. Another key is 1 selling the Iverson cut for 4 by following him with the dribble. 1 cuts back before the cut to the rim to set up a better passing angle. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavs - Iverson PG Rip

Cleveland Cavs - Iverson PG Rip

Matt Wheeler 12/26/2016

The Cleveland Cavaliers ran this play in the 4th quarter of their Christmas Day game against the Golden State Warriors. They were looking for a quick score out of timeout to cut down the lead. The play started with 4 making a decoy Iverson Cut over screens from 2 & 1. 3 passes to 1 and receives a back screen from 2 to get a shot in the paint. By having Lebron James (3) run the point guard, it gave them someone who could finish well around the rim after the back screen. See More

Basketball Play - Orlando Magic - Iverson Cross Iso

Orlando Magic - Iverson Cross Iso

Matt Wheeler 11/14/2016

The Orlando Magic ran this isolation play with the score tied and 10 seconds left in their game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. 2 makes an Iverson cut across the screens from 4 & 5. This cut is a decoy designed to draw attention from the defense. It is very effective when this is done with one of your primary scorers. 5 then screens for 4, resulting in an isolation where 4 can go 1 on 1 attacking the basket with his dominant hand. In this play x5 had to make a switch onto 4 which can also cause mismatch situations. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavs - DHO Iverson Screenback

Cleveland Cavs - DHO Iverson Screenback

Matt Wheeler 10/26/2016

The Cleveland Cavs ran this play in the second quarter of their season opening game against the New York Knicks. They used it after a timeout to get a wide open 3 pointer for JR Smith (3). 4 (Lebron James) initiates the offense with a dribble handoff with 3 and uses an Iverson cut to get the ball back on the wing. 4 immediately drives baseline then turns back to pass to 3 for the 3 point shot. Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies - SLOB Iverson Side Elevator

Memphis Grizzlies - SLOB Iverson Side Elevator

Matt Wheeler 08/01/2016

The Memphis Grizzlies ran this down 4 with 20 seconds left in an NBA Summer League game. In this situation they would need 2 scores and they opted to go for the 3 coming out of a timeout. The multiple screening actions from 4 & 5 caused the defensive confusion and led to an open shot for 4. 4 & 5's defenders have to guard back to back screening actions, first with the Iverson cut made by 2 and then the elevator screen for 3. If 5 cut to the basket instead of drifting to the perimeter he might have gotten a layup or at least would have created more space for the shot from 4. See More

Basketball Play - Boston Celtics "AI Attack"

Boston Celtics "AI Attack"

Gibson Pyper 02/26/2016

Designed to again get the player attacking to their strong hand, this set off the "AI-Iverson Cut" has options for players to attack off of. The first option is for the player to score and attack the rim, the second is if the defense collapses then look to kick to the big cutting off the hammer screen and finally a throwback set to get misdirection into a guard coming off a throwback screen. For the throwback screen it is important if the team "ICES" the ballscreen and you have already attacked the rim off the Iverson cut, then this will open up this counter even more, making it look like you are attacking and then throw it back for an open look. Basketball Play - Virginia Tech Corner Flare

Virginia Tech Corner Flare

Brandon Mullis 08/30/2015

Virginia Tech ran this SLOB set late in the game against Boston College this past season. The shooter was the second man in triple staggered screens/Iverson cut for the wing. The shooter then received a back screen to flare to the corner upon the baseline drive. He was wide open in the corner and knocked down the shot to pull his team within one possession with about 1 minute left to play in regulation. See More
