Basketball Play - New Mexico State Horns Slip

New Mexico State Horns Slip

Wes Kosel 03/20/2015

New Mexico State used this play early in the first half against Kansas. The play resulted with a foul on Kansas, but the Aggies are showing quality actions to get open post-ups and shots. The play starts with the point guard dribbling to the right as if he is going to use the ball-screen from 4. Instead, 4 slips the screen to the opposite block. 1 uses the ball-screen from 5 and looks for 4 posting up inside. If 4 isn't open, 1 looks to pass to 2 cutting up off of a down screen from 5. Cincinnati ran this Horns set 3-4 times throughout the first half against Purdue. The goal of this set is to create mismatches either on the Pick & Roll with replace action, or to force the defensive bigs to switch and then post up on the mismatch created. See More

Basketball Play - Ohio State Horns-Flex

Ohio State Horns-Flex

Andrew Greer 03/19/2015

Ohio State ran this modified flex vs. VCU after setting it up with multiple possessions of their basic horns set. After using misdirection, the VCU defender is expecting a second misdirection screen but the 1 only uses one ball screen taking him to the wing. The help side defenders are also anticipating a guard attack or post dive to the paint. This action allows the ball handler and the cutter (flex) the entire side of the floor to work with. During this particular set the flex cut was covered and the ball was sent to the 2 coming off of a stagger screen. See More

Basketball Play - Ohio State Horns Basic

Ohio State Horns Basic

Andrew Greer 03/19/2015

Ohio State Horns Basic. The Buckeyes used this set early in Round 2 action vs. VCU. This simple horns action served as an entry in to more complex horns sets. The buckeyes scored multiple ways out of this in the 1st half. Easy looks for them included a 15 ft. pull up jump shot and an easy dump down to the roll man to avoid aggressive ball screen defense from the Rams. See More

Basketball Play - Butler Horns Flex Action

Butler Horns Flex Action

Wes Kosel 03/19/2015

Butler used this play in the first half of the game against Texas to get an open shot in the post. The play starts in the horns set with an entry pass to the elbow. Butler fakes the staggered screen in the corner and has 2 back-cut to the basket. If 2 isn't open on the cut, he continues across the lane to set a flex screen for 3. Butler got a good look here and threw it directly in to 3 in the post. If 3 isn't open, 1 can pass to 2 cutting off of the down screen from 5. See More

Basketball Play - Ole Miss Horns PNR

Ole Miss Horns PNR

Wes Kosel 03/18/2015

NCAA Tournament First Four: Here is a play from Tuesday night's game between BYU and Ole Miss. The Rebels did a good job of getting into the paint and shooting the open shot or passing off to the open post players cutting to the basket. In this play, Ole Miss sets up in a horns set and the point guard takes the ball to the right off of the screen from 4. The point guard looks first to turn the corner and score or create a mid-range shot. If nothing is open, he has 4 rolling to the basket and 5 popping out. If 1 passes to 5, 5 passes to 3 on the wing and follows his pass directly into a wing pick & roll. The Rebels had great success with actions like this getting into the paint with their quick guards. If 3 doesn't have a shot, he looks to draw the defenders into help so that he can pass off to one of the post player for an easy dunk. See More
