Basketball Play - Shocker Zone Lob

Shocker Zone Lob

Wes Kosel 04/08/2015

Here is a quick zone hitter from Wichita State used to create an open lob. The play starts with a ball reversal and a pass to 4 in the corner. Once 4 gets the ball, 5 steps to the short corner looking for a shot. If 5 isn't open, 4 dribbles up to the wing bringing the zone defender up with him. 4 then passes to 2. At that time, 3 flashes to the high post taking the attention of the zone defenders. 2 quickly passes to 1 as 5 slips behind the zone defenders to set a back-screen for 4. 1 looks to make the lob pass over the top of the defense to 4 for a dunk. Basketball Play - UCLA to Ball Screen

UCLA to Ball Screen

Andrew Lacey 04/07/2015

Here is a nice little ATO set that can be used in late game situations or when you need a basket. Starting in a 1-4 High alignment can allow for the defense to be vulerable to the back door cut. Nonetheless the ball screen actions will draw a lot of attention and allow for the three on the wing or the reversal and throw inside. See More

Basketball Play - Louisville Lob to Stagger

Louisville Lob to Stagger

Wes Kosel 03/29/2015

Here is a lob option used by Rick Pitino and his Louisville Cardinals. The play uses a lot of side-to-side action getting the defense to chase cutters around the floor. The play starts with all 5 players above the free-throw line. The point guard passes to 4 then cuts to the basket off of a back-screen from 5. If the quick lob isn't there, 2 cuts across the floor weaving between screens from 5 and 4. Once 2 gets the ball, he gets a staggered ball-screen from the bigs. Multiple scoring options in this play make it difficult for teams to guard. See More

Basketball Play - Kentucky Lob

Kentucky Lob

Gibson Pyper 03/27/2015

Kentucky ran a nice counter out of a normal set they have ran all year. Typically they set a high Pick & Roll and the two men on the baseline screen off each other and read the defense. Kentucky ran a counter for a lob and instead of setting the PNR the big man steps up and cuts backdoor off a backscreen. See More

Basketball Play - Triple/Double

Triple/Double

Andrew Lacey 03/26/2015

Here is a nice 1-4 Low set that gives your the inital option to have your point or lead guard take his man off the bounce. As that is playing out the other players create some movement to have defense looking to defend cutters. You can get a nice Hi-Lo out of your post game or catch and shoot option for your wings. Basketball Play - UCCS Zone Lob

UCCS Zone Lob

Wes Kosel 03/26/2015

Here is a zone lob play used by head coach Jeff Culver at UCCS (University of Colorado-Colorado Springs). The UCCS Mountain Lions had an incredible season going 27-6 and winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championship over Metro State. This play was used to get Derrick White (25.8 ppg) a dunk against a 2-3 zone defense. The play starts with the ball moving to the wing and back to the point guard. With White on the wing, a back-screen is set as he sneaks in behind the defense for a lob and a dunk. See More

Basketball Play - Albany Floppy Triple

Albany Floppy Triple

Brandon Huntley 03/24/2015

After the 16-minute media timeout in the 2nd half, Albany was down 8, while coming up empty on the previous three possessions. They forced Oklahoma into a tough outside shot and after getting the defensive rebound; Coach Brown called a Floppy Triple set. As you can tell in the video, the play was designed to get Peter Hooley (#12) a shot. The defense was prepared to take away Hooley in the play, which left Ray Sanders (#1) wide-open coming off the screen. This is a great play to run in an After Time Out situation. You can give your two best shooters looks coming off screens. See More

Basketball Play - Virginia Corner Option

Virginia Corner Option

Wes Kosel 03/21/2015

Here is another baseline corner option used by Virginia to get Joe Harris the ball in the corner. The Cavaliers do a great job of moving without the ball making the defense chase shooters. In this option, Harris gets the ball in the corner looking for a shot. If a shot isn't there, Harris plays a two-man game with his 4 man for a pick & roll or pick & pop play in the corner. See More

Basketball Play - Gonzaga Double Follow PNR

Gonzaga Double Follow PNR

Gibson Pyper 03/21/2015

Gonzaga runs this set for a HI PNR for their shooting guard. I like this set and it works because it keeps the defense moving, and has a stretch 4 spread the floor after freezing his man. Kevin Pangos being an elite 3 point threat is on the wing to prevent any weakside help, and having 3 shooters spacing the floor allows the PNR to be effective. See More

Basketball Play - OK State Weave Cross Up

OK State Weave Cross Up

Wes Kosel 03/21/2015

Here is another great play from Oklahoma State to get Phil Forte a shot. The play starts with multiple dribble hand-offs that gets the defense chasing the ball. Once the ball is back to the point guard, he dribbles towards the middle of the floor then hits the wing on a snapback. Forte (2) sets a cross-screen for 5 then gets a down-screen from 4. Forte cuts to the top of the key for an open shot. See More

Basketball Play - Oklahoma State Flex Slide Hand-Off

Oklahoma State Flex Slide Hand-Off

Wes Kosel 03/20/2015

Oklahoma State used this flex option early when Oregon was playing man to man defense. The Cowboys didn't get a good shot since they gave up on the play after the hand-off (they did not get to the screen for Forte at the end). However, this is a good play to get Forte (2) open for a shot. The play starts in traditional flex with the ball moving from right to left. Instead of 1 setting the down-screen for the flex screener inside, 1 slides to the right wing as 4 sets the down-screen. Once 5 gets the ball at the top of the key, he dribbles right to give 1 the ball on a dribble hand-off. At the same time, Forte sets a cross-screen in the post then cuts to the wing off of a down-screen from 5. This play is difficult to guard because 5's defender has to worry about the hand-off and then react to Forte cutting to the wing. See More
