Basketball Play - 32

32

Andrew Lacey 07/13/2015

Start in a 1-2-2 alignment with your bigs on the blocks. 1 will dribble the basketball away from the side he wants to enter the ball. (ex. Go away from your best shooter). As one is coming back to the shooter's side; 4/5 will set a double screen (elevator screen) for the shooter (2 in this case). 2 will sprint around the screen and back to the ball side corner looking for the shot. 3 will slide to the weak-side corner. If 2 is not open for the pass/shot. 5 (or the post thats at the top of the double screen) will set a screen for the 4 (or post at the bottom of the double screen). 4 then curls tight off the screen looking for a pass from 1. Coach Jim Larranaga wants to play up-tempo and score in transition. This year they have concentrated more on getting the ball inside the paint more. Even though it has a modern day (4 Out) look it still has an old fashion (inside-out) approach to basketball. To execute this plan they use a variety of ball screen type action and roll/replace concepts. Having a very good point guard that can drive and shoot makes this tough to defend. See More

Coach John Calipari is known for his Dribble Drive Offense. However, with the size and skill that he puts on the floor nigh in and night out he has the ability to take advantage of mismatches early in the possession. Often overlooked is his ability to create movement before the dribble drive concepts take place. Below is a nice 1-4 set that he used against Stony Brook that created multiple scoring options as well as opened up driving lanes. See More

Today’s basketball offense breakdown comes from the 2 Out 3 In Motion Offense. Iowa State used the concepts once used by Steve Alford when he was at New Mexico. The 2 Out 3 In motion offense is very unique, which allows the post area to become open for isolation plays and opens up dribble penetration and backdoor cut plays. Iowa State made this key adjustment in the first half against Nevada when they struggled to get much out of their ball screen sets. See More
