Basketball Play - Split Post Reads

Split Post Reads

Justin Schueller 06/09/2016

Within the system that I have been evolving over time, I realized the importance to have strong post action but also to have variation in what occurs off the post catch. We teach this action in various levels from U12s in Country Victoria through to our Junior National teams. With this idea, we now teach two actions relative to where the ball is caught, which i term "post zone". the catch being In the post zone or out of the post zone. In all of our teaching we have a strong emphasis of if it is 1 v 1 its on you to score, if you see 2 you must pass the ball, this is the same for our post players and a reason for having multiple cutters off the weakside. Australian basketball has followed the late clock philosophy of Europe with late penetration, out of post play we like to finish with either on balls on the seem or middle on ball, depending what post zone the ball was caught in. Basketball Play - Bosnia & Herzegovina U17 - Cross

Bosnia & Herzegovina U17 - Cross

Justin Schueller 07/06/2016

One of the harder actions to negate at the recent FIBA U17 World Championships was Bosnia & Herzegovina's cross screen, down screen into middle on ball action which they ran for thier leading player Dzanan Musa. The action allows multiple scoring opportunities for Musa while engaging weakside defenders and allowing the best chance for penetration to a score or kick out 3. We met Bosnia & Herzegovina in the round of 16 and spent a lot of time ensuring we could negate this action. As the game showed they were still able to create positive shots out of this action, even against a heavy scout. See More

Australia - Floppy Hammer

Mo Dakhil 08/12/2016

The play starts out in a floppy set. The 3 comes off the 5 and curls to come to the opposite wing receiving a screen from the 4. The 1 hits the 3 as he comes off the 2nd screen. The 2 cuts off the 5 after the 3 to the wing. Right after the 2 comes off the 5, the 5 turns around and sets the hammer screen on the 2 defender bring him to the corner. The 3 right on the catch drives hard baseline looking to find the 2. At the same time the 4 rolls to the as the send option. See More

Basketball Play - SLOB Hammer

SLOB Hammer

Mo Dakhil 08/22/2016

The 2 pops to the weakside wing. The 1 sets a back pick for the 5 and gets a screen from the 4 in a pick the picker action to get him the ball on the strong side wing. Immediately on the catch the 1 drives baseline. The 5 sets the hammer screen to bring the 2 to the corner. The 2 can also cut on the inside if his defender jumps to the outside to take the corner away. The 4 can set a screen for the 3 as well. See More

Minnesota Timberwolves - 44 Counter

Mo Dakhil 09/12/2016

The 1 dribbles down the sideline, comes off 1-4 side p/r. After setting the pick, the 4 comes off a screen from the 3. If the defender goes over the top of the screen, the 4 immediately posts on the right block. The 3 pops out to the wing. If the 1 can throw the post entry pass or send it to the 3 for a better passing angle. See More

Basketball Play - Chicago Bulls - Fake Handoff Logo PNR

Chicago Bulls - Fake Handoff Logo PNR

Matt Wheeler 07/22/2016

The Chicago Bulls ran this play to start the second half of the NBA Summer League Championship game. Denzel Valentine was scoreless in the first half so they ran this play to get the ball in his hands and get him going. A logo pick & roll is a ball screen action that starts where the NBA logo is usually situated on the floor, a little off of the post area. In this play the screen from the 2 for the 5 made it difficult for the Timberwolves to provide help on the ball screen. See More

Basketball Play - Chicago Bulls - Wedge Cross

Chicago Bulls - Wedge Cross

Matt Wheeler 08/01/2016

The Chicago Bulls summer league team ran this variation of the Wedge play to get the ball inside for a post up play. Frequently teams try to get the ball into the post on the initial side of the floor after the screen from 2. In this play 2 pops out to receive the pass from 1 after he sets his screen. 4 and 3 set simultaneous screens to get 5 open in the post and to free up 2 to make the post entry pass to him. See More
