In this diagram and embedded video we have a set play to get a dynamic driver some space to operate. The play uses some false motion to open space up for a brush screen to be used to try to create an advantage to drive to the basket. I love these gap drive actions to take some pressure off the driver, and make the defense execute with the brush screen. The Boston Celtics new head coach, Ime Udoka, ran this ATO to get Dennis Schroeder (2) an opportunity to use his quickness to attack the basket to create a play. Schroeder's speed comes in handy as he cuts off a screen and a dribble handoff to get the ball and attack the basket. Even though the Miami Heat switched the dribble handoff, Shroeder had too much momentum and was easily able to blow by the defender and create a shot for a three in the corner. Video clip below. The Los Angeles Lakers opened their 2021 preseason with this quick hitting play to get Russell Westbrook attacking the rim off the PNR. This play involves their top three players in Westbrook (1), Lebron James (3), and Anthony Davis (4). After 3 dribble handoffs with 1, 1 immediately passes to 4 up top. This initates the false action by 3, 5 and 2 as they cut for spacing to prepare for the ball screen with 1 and 4. Video clip below. See More
