Basketball Play - Close Out & Contest Drill

Close Out & Contest Drill

Matt Hackenberg 01/31/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a defensive drill. I like this drill as a change of pace to use instead of shell defense during the team defense block in our practice plan. Basketball Play - Arch/Sweep Fundamentals Drill

Arch/Sweep Fundamentals Drill

Matt Hackenberg 02/02/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a fundamentals drill. This drill has no shooting. It's simply performing attacking footwork, getting to the jump stop, and executing a pivot. Change the footwork every couple minutes. Visit my Sellfy store for detailed coaching materials written by me - https://sellfy.com/coachhack.go/ Follow me on Twitter - @CoachHackGO See More

Basketball Play - Partner Passing Drill

Partner Passing Drill

Matt Hackenberg 02/03/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a warmup drill. This is a drill to use right after stretching to get players moving and get them a feel for the basketball. It starts out easy, but gets fairly challenging once two balls are incorportated. Basketball Play - Conceptual Zone O: Baseline Runner

Conceptual Zone O: Baseline Runner

Matt Hackenberg 02/07/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a conceptual zone offense. This iffense can be used against a variety of zones and can be used for many possessions in a single game without becoming stale. This play is a like a swiss army knife, coming in handy when you need something to go to and havng multiple scoring options within the offense. Basketball Play - Zone Offense: Horns Ball Screen

Zone Offense: Horns Ball Screen

Matt Hackenberg 02/09/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a set play to use against zone defense. A lot of coaches use the horns alignment to ball screen against man to man, but I've found it to be useful as a zone concept as well. All you need is one little crease for the ball handler to squeeze through and you're in to the second level of the defense. Basketball Play - Zip Swing Flare

Zip Swing Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for a flare screen three-pointer. The dribble entry, zipper screen and down screen make the set easy to initiate, even against heavy pressure. The flare screen in very unassuming, so running this play a select few times a game should yield a good look. In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a clever action. This play has a nice flow to it, and the flare screen coming right off the zipper screen is pretty unique. Basketball Play - Push Swing Flare

Push Swing Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a clever action. This play has some interesting actions. The cut by 4 to get get open for the swing is pretty unique, as well as the 5 receiving a screen from the 1 on the flare. The action is pretty dependent on 5 flashing to get open, so that would need to be a point of emphasis. 41 Brush Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a clever action. I this is an interesting and unque action, that is also really simple. The actions requires great timing bur presents opportunities for 1 to drive, 2 to play off the flare, and 4 to slip. Basketball Play - Princeton: DHO Swing Flare

Princeton: DHO Swing Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a Princeton alignment for a flare screen three. This set is interesting because it starts in a Princeton alignment, but flows into a Blocker-Mover pattern. It gets to the flare screen quickly but has enough movement before the flare to keep the defense occupied. Basketball Play - Box Corner Sprint BLOB

Box Corner Sprint BLOB

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a box alignment for a flare screen three. This action is interesting to me because chasing a shooter that doesn't have the ball to the weak side goes against a lot of defensive principles that coaches teach. If the screen is swtiched, 5 should look to shape up. 4 has ample space to dive into after screening for 3 in an action I would regard as false motion. Basketball Play - 5 Out DHO Flare

5 Out DHO Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 5 Out alignment for a flare screen three. This becomes a pretty natural option in a secondary break setting. Simply initiating a DHO can be a trigger to execute the action without any play call. I like the action because it stretches the defense side to side. Basketball Play - Hit Swing Flare

Hit Swing Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 1-3-1 alignment for a flare screen three-pointer. This action is stupid simple, and it works agianst man or zone. As a zone action, you would screen the top defender on that side and catch the low defender in a bump, having a 2 on 1 to work with.
