The basics of the Kansas Jayhawks High-Low Offense (Weakside Cut Option)
Video below show strongside and weakside cut options.
Initial Positioning
The point guard wants to enter the offense from the lane channel. The free throw lane lines extended create this channel (shaded area).
At times, the Jayhawks use a box set and screen for 2 and 3 to free them on the wings.
Most often there is a point to wing entry. After the entry, 1 cuts to weakside corner
When the wing catches, 4 cross screens for 5 the opens to top of key.
2 makes centering pass to 4.
This is the trademark positioning of the High-Low offense.
RULE: when the high post(4) has the ball the low post (5) will be in a direct line to between the ball and the basket.
If fronted, 5 walks his man up the lane and the Jayhawks look to complete the lob. If the defender stays on the side there is a scoop entry and if the defender plays behind, 5 ducks in.
If the High-Low entry is not made, the ball is reversed. Typically 3 will downscreen for 1 when 4 catches the ball.
Upon reversal to the strong side, 4 downscreens for 2 who reads his man and makes the proper cut
In the event 4 cannot make the High-Low entry or reverse to the strong side, 4 can go back to 2 and set a staggered double away for 1.
Another option when no high-low entry or reversal occurs is to go back to 1 and set a pick-and-roll on the weakside.
