Basic Cut w/ Stagger Screen - FastModel Sports

About This Play/Drill

This play can be used in the Half-Court or as a Secondary Break.  It gets the ball moving and provides three different ways to score.  Dean Smith and John Beilein have had a lot of success using this set and its variations. 

  • Basketball Play - Basic Cut w/ Stagger Screen

  • 4 gets open and receives a pass from 1. Then, 1 makes a Basket Cut and fills out to corner. 2 sprints into the middle of the lane.

  • 5 SPRINTS to top of key. 4 dribbles up to get a better angle and passes to 5. 3 gets in postion to receive pass from 5.

  • 5 immediately swings the ball to 3. 2 sets a Backscreen and 4 cuts off it to the ballside block ('Basic Cut').

  • 2 and 5 set a Stagger Screen for 1 in the corner. 3 can pass to either 4 on the ballside block or 1 at the top of the key.
