ACE is one of the ball screen concepts in the Villanova Four-Out Motion Offense.
ACE is a side ball screen set by the interior play on the wing. It can sometimes be set by a perimeter player as well. Instead of the automatic roll in ROLL, the screener pops for a shot and throwback option.
Weakside players exchange. Slot player shades to the weakside of the midline to leave double gap for the drive.
Always want ball screens off of movement first
1 passes to wing (by rule they shallow cut away through the logo
Other players fill towards the ball
Leave a spot fill a spot
Reverse and interchage
Post is following the ball
Pass to wing and shallow cut away
ACE = one guard "below" the ballscreen; single guard as the cutter is going away
As 2 is leaving we "get an ace" with 5 ball screening on the wing
On an ACE the screener pops, slot player (3 as shown) gets to the weakside of the midline, weakside players exchange
