This is a sample of the Texas Tech true motion offense. This is not a set play but a picture of the sequences of actions you will have to guard when facing them. In one possession you have to guard: a drag screen, flare screen, slipped step-up screen, a pick & pop, and one last flare screen by the 5 to empty the paint. The spacing struggles at times but they force you into uncommon situations and actions that it presents the opportunity for miscommunication and scoring opportunities. This is an extremely difficult action to make x5 guard but is incredibly simple to run. We call this "Hot Action" which is a back screen off-ball, followed immediately by an on-ball screen. If the big tags the cutter on the back-screen as he should, unless they are switching, this puts him late to his ball screen coverage. Simple, yet effective. With 33 seconds left in the third quarter of their Round of 32 matchup with Missouri State, Iowa State's Women's team ran this 1-4 high set to get a post isolation for 6'1" forward Madison Wise, taking advantage of a matchup with a smaller defender. The key to this was Wise's ability to change pace and speed coming across the top of the key; the timing allowed her to keep the defender on her back as she established position on the mid-post. Iowa State ran this to perfection late clock and ended up sending Wise to the FT line to cut the Missouri State lead to 4 going into the fourth. See More

Love this set. I am a huge fan of getting skilled bigs at the top of the key with the ball and space. The misdirection to begin softens the defense up and then there are countless possibilities you can finish this set with. I love the natural push of the drive off of the weave and Chicago action handoff into the flare on the weak side. That flare can be easily mis-guarded and result in a slip and a wide open layup for the screener. I love the built in throw-back, or "shake" action with the ball screen, roll, and corner lift as well. A lot of bang for your buck with this one. See More
