Basketball Play - Quick Hitter Lob vs 2-3 Zone

Quick Hitter Lob vs 2-3 Zone

John Zall 06/14/2016

The University of Virginia ran this to get a lob dunk versus a zone defense. The 2 slice cut through the lane and got the pass from 1 who quickly continued to reverse the ball to 3 on the left wing. The 3 then reverses course with the ball ultimately sending it back to the 1. The 4 and 5 on the baseline interchanged and set back screens on the bottom of the zone. The exchange made it tough for the zone to realize they were being screened and fight through. The 1 threw the ball up to 3 at the rim for the lob over the zone. See More

Basketball Play - Serbia - Secondary Post Up

Serbia - Secondary Post Up

Wes Kosel 06/06/2016

Serbia likes to run the point guard up the sidelines and to get a quick post they used this spacing pattern with the point guard and center on one side of the floor and 4, 3, and 2 all on the right side of the floor (and spaced on the 3-point line). The spacing makes it hard for the defenders to help in the post and if all of your players are capable 3-point shooters this can be an easy way to get a 1 on 1 look in the post. See More

Basketball Play - Oklahoma City Thunder "RWB Backdoor"

Oklahoma City Thunder "RWB Backdoor"

Gibson Pyper 05/16/2016

The Oklahoma City Thunder run a great backdoor set for Russell Westbrook with Kevin Durant passing. After intial action similar to floppy, Durant comes off a pindown into a dribble hand off. After the hand off he hesitates looks at Westbrook who then plants and goes backdoor. Look for the Thunder to unleash this set in the conference finals, typically after a time out. See More

Basketball Play - 3 ON 3 SERIES

3 ON 3 SERIES

Marc Skelton 05/10/2016

A great drill that simultaneously improves your team and individual players offensively and defensively is a series of 3 on 3 drills. Offensively, we work on dribble hand-offs, cuts, shooting, passing, catching, screens, and timing. Defensively, we work on communication and the different ways to defend screens. I also like this drill because it helps to reduce turnovers. See More

Basketball Play - Houston Rockets 2 Off

Houston Rockets 2 Off

Adam Spinella 05/10/2016

For the Houston Rockets who have a star player that is a guard, they often see him be overplayed on the perimeter and denied the basketball for a reversal. All backdoor sets that are effective are counters to previously scouted plays or main sets that a team runs, and the Rockets took that into consideration when running this backdoor clearout for James Harden. Coming out of a chin formation, they send their 4-man thru on the baseline, and then clear out that entire side of the floor for Harden to dart backdoor. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavaliers - "Quick Get"

Cleveland Cavaliers - "Quick Get"

Greg Youncofski 04/26/2016

This set puts your point guard in a position to make a play off the catch. The quick rub screen forces X1 to have to help on 5 to prevent the layup, which then makes him late recovering to 1 on the ballscreen. If you are able to get a layup for the 5 man the first time you run it, that will set up the ballscreen even more for the second time you go to it. See More

Basketball Play - Dallas Mavericks - "Dallas Action"

Dallas Mavericks - "Dallas Action"

Greg Youncofski 04/26/2016

This set provides that opportunity because as 1 is catching the ball, the 5 man is setting a ballscreen immediately on X1, giving 1 a chance to attack in a straight line drive right off the catch. Also, this can be an effective play against a team that will blitz/hard hedge the side ballscreen, as 2 can hit 1 quickly off the screen and 1 will have plenty of time to throw the lob to 4 rolling to the basket before the defense recovers. Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors - BLOB Double Rip

Toronto Raptors - BLOB Double Rip

Greg Youncofski 04/19/2016

Innovative BLOB set by the Raptors. Most teams that run a double rip set usually run it for a bigger player. The Raptors run it here for a point guard. This can be a great action for teams who have bigger guards or who are looking to take advantage of a mismatch in the post. The Raptors have their 5 man set the first screen which is not an easy action to guard as majority of teams do not switch 1-5 and X1 has to fight over two screens. See More

Basketball Play - Charlotte Hornets - SLOB Fade Handoff Rescreen

Charlotte Hornets - SLOB Fade Handoff Rescreen

Greg Youncofski 04/19/2016

Another well designed SLOB from the Hornets. This play is effective because it has many options that the defense has to worry about. By having Jefferson catch the ball outside the three-point line, Batum has plenty of room to take the handoff and go all the way to the rim. By having so much action going on, no defender is just standing around waiting to help – everyone has to worry about their man. See More

Basketball Play - Charlotte Hornets - SLOB Double Ballscreen Stagger

Charlotte Hornets - SLOB Double Ballscreen Stagger

Greg Youncofski 04/19/2016

One of the Hornets favorite sets in the half court can be just as effective as a SLOB. The Hornets set it up by making Batum’s defender fight through false action zipper screens, and then come right back and make him fight through stagger screens. Batum scores here but the play has many options. Your point guard can take it to the rim right away off the ballscreens. If you have a big man who can shoot, have him pop after the stagger screen because if his man switches or overhelps, he could be wide open for a three-pointer. See More
