Basketball Play - South Carolina (W) - Horns 53 High Low

South Carolina (W) - Horns 53 High Low

Aseem Rastogi 04/01/2017

With 5:57 left in their Final Four matchup with Stanford, Coach Dawn Staley called this Horns set to get a quick high low for their 3 player who was being guarded by a smaller defender. South Carolina loves to run their high low action with A'Ja Wilson and Alaina Coates, but with Coates nursing an injury, they had to turn to an unconventional high low action to keep it rolling. Basketball Play - Kentucky - Side PNR Backdoor

Kentucky - Side PNR Backdoor

Matt Wheeler 03/26/2017

Kentucky ran this play multiple times in the first half of their Elite Eight game against North Carolina to get effective looks at a backdoor layup. This play can be run as a continuity offense starting with a side ball screen. 1 dribbles off of the screen and passes to 4. 4 looks for the backdoor pass and if fhat isn't available passes to the wing to get into another side pick & roll. As 2 comes off the ball screen they pass to the other post player (5) up top. 5 goes through same reads (backdoor pass or pass and follow pick & roll). See More

Basketball Play - West Virginia Princeton Action

West Virginia Princeton Action

Dana Beszczynski 03/24/2017

West Virginia used this Princeton type action last night against Gonzaga in their Sweet 16 match-up. Carter runs off the FT line screen into a double stagger looking to catch & shoot off the pass from the TOK. If there's no shot, he has the option to throw inside and the 5 man's down screen or exchange with 3 can also lead to a Hi / Lo off the wing pass to the FT Line area. The play closes with a corner ball screen action when the post has no attack option to the basket and the PG makes the read shooting behind the screen. See More

Basketball Play - Gonzaga Hi / Lo Set

Gonzaga Hi / Lo Set

Dana Beszczynski 03/24/2017

The Zags have effectively used this Hi / Lo action all season and tonight to try and get and more action with their bigs to the ring they used it as well. Gonzaga has good size down low and this has been a very good action for them all season. The FT Line flash is perfectly timed as Collins comes hard to the ball side and receives the pass, with Williams turning his body for the Hi / Lo action. See More

Basketball Play - Xavier - Shuffle Stagger Floppy

Xavier - Shuffle Stagger Floppy

Doug Brotherton 03/24/2017

This set is one of my favorites of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. There are numerous scoring opportunities, as it is a combination of multiple actions. Xavier ran this set in their Sweet 16 game, against Arizona. The set resulted in a wide open three point attempt. The play gets a ball reversal, has a shuffle cut, double stagger screen, and flows into Floppy action. Great stuff by Coach Mack! See More

Basketball Play - Arizona - Motion

Arizona - Motion

Dana Beszczynski 03/21/2017

Sean Miller's Offensive sets are very creative, involve a lot of movement and do a good job changing sides of the floor. This Princeton type Motion Action invovles a lot of screening actions, incorporates two ball screens and forces the Defense to be aware of cutters and movements on the weak side. The opening action off the FT line elbow screen can yield a lob if the defender on the cutter gets hung up on the screen or is late trailing his man. Use also have the back screen Flex type cut for Trier which can get your 3 man a quick post-up or easy lay-up off the ball reversal step out from the 5 man. The play ends with either a SPNR or Step-up screen from the baseline. Well designed, easy to execute, but very hard to defend when utilizing a full shot clock. See More

Basketball Play - St. Mary's Misdirection Double Ball Screen

St. Mary's Misdirection Double Ball Screen

Dana Beszczynski 03/21/2017

This is a really well tought out set as the ball is entered on the break to the wing and then a quick screen on the trailing post leads to an early SPNR action to the open side. Fitzner can step out to shoot or roll depending on the defense plays it. If the 1st action isn't open, the ball is reversed and the passer sprints-to-screen on the ball, again a Guard-Guard action forcing the defense into a decision. If the PG cannot turn the corner, the 4 steps out to re-screen back to the two man side or the PG can attack down the lane. This is one of my favorite St.Mary's sets from Coach Bennett. See More

Basketball Play - St. Mary's - Gaels Horns Set

St. Mary's - Gaels Horns Set

Dana Beszczynski 03/21/2017

The St. Mary's Gaels do a very good job running their half court sets, with good patience, spacing, and ball movement, they make the defense really pay close attention especially off the ball. This set out of a Horns, is very popular at the European level right now and the first action gives you a chance for a quick hitter off the back door cut. St. Mary's has Jock Landale who can pop or roll out of the SPNR action which makes him a double threat and can open up the driving lanes for the guards too get in the paint and cause rotations, which then leads to kick-outs for their proficient shooting from behind the arc.
