Basketball Play - Wildcat

Wildcat

John Leonzo 06/25/2013

Here is a play that John Calipari ran in his first year at Kentucky. This was a great set for that team because of where it placed their extremely talented players. You had 5 (Cousins) in the post, 1 (John Wall) attacking off the ball screen, and 2 (Eric Bledsoe) coming off of the stagger. They would run this at the end of the shot clock to get a good look. Basketball Play - Blue

Blue

John Leonzo 06/26/2013

Here is another late shot clock play that was run in Calipari's first year at Kentucky. This set is a good one to run if you have a point guard that can create off the dribble and a post that can dominate inside. Very quick and easy action. See More

Basketball Play - Grizzly

Grizzly

John Leonzo 06/21/2013

Here is a quick hitter that was run by Lionel Hollins and the Memphis Grizzlies this past NBA season. The wide pin down to dribble hand off action is very hard to guard and can either get you a good look at a basket or create a mismatch opportunity if the defense elects to switch. See More

Basketball Play - 2 Down

2 Down

John Leonzo 07/22/2013

Here is a set play that can be run for continuity with a stagger screen going on each time it is run. This is a great play to get a 3 point play for your 3 man, but it can be an even more effective ISO for 2 if the ball is thrown to him as he pulls across the lane. Because of the stagger going on the opposite side of the floor, the help side should be occupied and 2 can have a good chance to attack and create. Another option that could be open is 4 slipping to the basket after setting his top part of the stagger screen. If his man hedges hard to help on 3 popping to the wing, you could have a good look at 4 slipping to the basket. See More

Basketball Play - 2 low

2 low

John Leonzo 07/11/2013

Here is a quick hitter that can be run effectively against man to man so long as the offense reads the defense correctly. The effectiveness of this play lies in the screen the screener action that occurs between 2 and 3. 2 will always curl this screen looking to score, if 3's defender helps on 2, 1 should look to hit 3 in the short corner for a shot oppertunity. Basketball Play - Stacks High

Stacks High

John Leonzo 07/12/2013

Here is a set play that starts out with high stacks and morphs into a 1-4 set. This is a great set because it gets the ball swinging from side to side, has action going both towards and away from the basket, as well as a ball screen. You can also adapt this play so that 2 and 4 play pick and pop after the ball screen or you can pop 1 out for a 3pt chance off a stagger screen from 4 and 5 after 4 ball screens 2. See More

Basketball Play - Celtic 2

Celtic 2

John Leonzo 12/16/2013

Here is a play that the Celtics ran a little while back to get a basket against the Heat with little time left on the clock. Almost all of the action is false with the intent to get the 5 man to seal his defender to the outside so that a lob can be thrown over the top to the side of the floor where there is no help. This is a great play to run with little time left! See More

Basketball Play - Rip Leak

Rip Leak

John Leonzo 02/19/2014

Here is a set that the sixers run often to get their possesions started with a few good looks at the basket. The key to this play is the 2 settin a sound back screen on the 4 man. This will force his man to help on the cut and enable the 5 to have a good angle to screen 2's man. A great simple option to get the ball to your best player. See More

Basketball Play - Stagger Leak

Stagger Leak

John Leonzo 02/22/2014

Here is a set that Evansville ran early in their game vs. Whichita State to get their offense started. More often than not, x4 will help hard on the 2's curl and 5 will have great angle to flare 4 for a jump shot. Another possibility is looking for 5 slipping the flare screen. See More
