Favorite Send to FastDrawWest Virginia ran this "Shuffle Stagger" set, following a stoppage in play, in their game against Bucknell. The best thing about this play is the numerous scoring options. You can get the 1 on the back screen. It can be run to get a player a post isolation. Lastly, it can result in an open 3-pointer, off of the double stagger. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn the second round match-up between Kansas and Michigan State, Bill Self felt like the Jayhawks needed to get the ball inside. To start the 2nd half, they ran this set, which resulted in two points. The lob option, led to a high/low post isolation, which scored easily. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis box set incorporates our "ELBOW" action. The Elbow action starts in a box set, with guards splitting to the wings. Post lift up the lane line. What I like about this play is the versatility. It can be used to generate an open 3, a post iso, or a high/low look. It can also be used effectively against man-to-man or zone defense, by simply teaching 4 to set the cross screen on the middle of the zone. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn Game 2 of the Spurs-Rockets series, in the 2017 NBA Playoffs, Popovich ran this ATO set. It is a terrific design, based on the fact that the Spurs love to isolate Kawhi Leonard (3). On the screen-the-screener action, it looks like an isolation, but is actually a "Hammer Action." This is a screen, to set up the baseline drift pass. It resulted in a wide open 3 for Danny Green, as the Spurs opened up a 10-point halftime lead in Game 2. Look for more isolation sets, and "Hammer Actions" from the Spurs, throughout the Playoffs. See More
Favorite Send to FastDraw"Iverson Loop" is a misdirection set that can be used to get a shooter an open look, or isolate a skilled player. The Iverson cut clears out the weak side. When the flare screen is set, the passer must decide if he throws the skip pass to 4, or looks at the 5 on the slip to the rim. If the ball is skipped to 4, it is for a shot, or a wing isolation is created for the player to attack. See More
Favorite Send to FastDraw"The Hill" is named after Greenhill School in Addison, Texas. At the 2017 TABC (Texas Association of Basketball Coaches) Clinic, there was a "Pass the Chalk" Event. This SLOB was drawn by Greenhill School boys varsity basketball coach, Joey Sims. I have added a double stagger to the end of the set, so that there is a secondary action, if the lob is not available. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a simple set, which enables a team to get a post isolation. If the defense switches, the inbounder should look to throw it directly to the post player. If the defense fronts the post, the back side is vacated, allowing an easy lob pass. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Mercury run their "Ear Tug" quick hitter to get one of the best shooters of all time, Diana Taurasi, a pin down from Brittany Griner. This set can be used to free up the guard, or to create a post iso. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawSeton Hall battled Wofford in a great game in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Seton Hall ran a double drag ball screen, with a strong side down screen. This was all to open up a weak side flare. It is a good action, to get a 3, or a clear out for an isolation to attack off the bounce. #FastModelMadness NCAA Tournament: Viewing Guide by Style of Play See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament, Iowa trailed Tennessee by double digits. Early in the second half, Iowa came roaring back into the game. This set created a post isolation, and helped keep the run going for the Hawkeyes. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn the 2019 NCAA Elite Eight, Coach Calipari ran this set over and over again, to get PJ Washington isolated. It actually features an opportunity to isolate players on either block. #FastModelMadness See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a disguised entry into 21. Defense is about positioning so getting any defense out of the position they are familar guarding an action out of automatically begins putting them to the test. This is only the entry into the 21 offense. If you have not seen that yet I recommend checking out my diagram of it here I will be uploading a couple wrinkles from this because I think the misdirection to isolatin for the 5 man is reallly stinking good here with everyone perimeter weakside it really gives you some freedowm to exploit here. I will upload a version of how to get any position on your floor seamlessly into the post position for this action as a set but this itself is simply the Flex entry into 21. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a counter from the base action I diagramed entitled, "Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy." This is a very simple yet effective counter you can run with this set. The video below is not of this set itselft, but the base horns floppy action. 5 will attempt to bury defender as 2 comes off screen. While this is happening, 1 and 4 set a double stagger screen away for 3 in the corner. This is a great time for several things: 1) 5 in a post isolation situation while help side is working through the stagger. 2) Obviously a 3pt opportunity for 3 if you have a 5 that garners a lot of attention. 3) While the stagger is occuring, if 5 were to sprint into a side ball screen for 2, that would leave 2 a wide open driving line off of a reject of 5's screen. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a great set with many scoring options off of it. The flat ball screen isolates your best player driving to score. You also get the Philly cut where you can get the ball to another driver on the move, then you have the pin screen for the shooter cutting baseline, and lastly you have the initial screener popping to shoot. Simple concept but great addition to your end of game playbook. On the FMS Blog: NCAA Preseason Top 25 XsOs - Teams 1-5 See More
