Basketball Play - Elevator Clear Out

Elevator Clear Out

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a early offense set to attack in transition, usually with limited time on the clock. The design is mostly used to get a point gaurd space, but I think the shooter will be open sometimes as well. Basketball Play - Gate Flare SLOB

Gate Flare SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 02/23/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a sideline inbound play for a flare screen three-pointer. The gate entry is a great option because a lot of things can evolve from it with slips, back cuts, and screens. The elevator screen leads right into a flare screen on this set play. Basketball Play - Triple Baseline Screen

Triple Baseline Screen

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for three-point shot. This set requires great timing. I like it for a short clock attempt to find a three. I also think it sets up for the misdirection backdoor set on the back side of the play off of a reverse pivot by the ball handler, although we don't see that in this clip below. Basketball Play - Misdirection DHO Gate

Misdirection DHO Gate

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for an elevater screen. The set starts in a 1-2-2 alignment and uses pin downs to get the wing entry, which is a DHO. The action starts flowing the other way while the gate screen is set up behind the play for the misdirection. Basketball Play - Slice Stagger Wheel Clear

Slice Stagger Wheel Clear

Matt Hackenberg 12/31/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set play to create a driving lane, but there are plenty of options before the driving lane. You can score on the back screen, the stagger screen, or even the second stagger screen. Many options, but if none of those hit, you have the clear out to explore. Basketball Play - Horns: Push Gate Series

Horns: Push Gate Series

Matt Hackenberg 12/22/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play series out of a horns alignment. The dribble push enters the set. The first two options are slipping the gate screen, and turning the corner on the dribble push for a clear out. The next option is using the gate screen, which goes into a pin or flare option, similar to a blocker/mover action. Video below. Basketball Play - Wheel Stagger SLOB

Wheel Stagger SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/17/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB to get into the flex offense. The flex offense has stood the test of time. Every year I've been a head coach we've had a BLOB, SLOB or set play option for the flex offense. Basketball Play - Flare Gate Slip SLOB

Flare Gate Slip SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/17/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB to look to steal a basket with a slip set. Having the most lethal scoring option coming off the gate screen increases the chances the defense will overreact to it. I don't think it matters which of the two screeners slip, as long as both don't slip. They want to be watching their defenders, and if either one gets above the level of the screen, slip into the open space. Basketball Play - Gate Stagger SLOB

Gate Stagger SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a little misdirection stagger action. I like how the flow of the actions goes one way, and then the shooter comes open behind the play. I think this could be very effective in a package of plays that all started from the gate alignment. Video clip below.
