About This Play/Drill

With the growing amount of teams using the ball screen in today's game;  we decided to implement a couple simple quick ball screen actions that were not apart of our basic ball screen movements.  The Ball screen is one of the toughest actions to guard in today's game.  We have found it easy to get a get quality look in the lane off our ball screen sets.  I discussed in my article published in the Winning Hoops Magazine (Sept./Oct. Edition) -"Using Ball Screens in your Motion Offense" that we generally use our ball screen actions after we get the defense moving.

  • Basketball Play - Drag

(1) dribbles the ball to just beyond the Free Throw line extended area.

(5) will sprint out and set a side screen on the ball handlers defender. Then he will roll off the screen.

As (1) starts to work off the side ball screen, the (4) will set a down (angled) screen for the (2) or wing. You want this screen been set amost in the short corner but not the corner.

After setting the screen the (4) will slip to the basket.

(3) will read the defender that is defending the roll. If he helps on the roll the (3) will pop to the Free Throw line extended area.
