VCU used these secondary break actions successfully in their NCAA matchup with Ohio State. Defending actions requires great awareness and communication by all five defenders, and the Rams were able to catch OSU sleeping to hit a early 3.
(1) looks to reverse the ball to the trailer (4) and then (4) reverses to the opposite wing (2).
(5) will sprint to the ball side block intially.
With the ball on the wing with (2) the (4) will follow the pass and set a ball screen for the wing.
As (2) comes off the ball screen looking to attack the elbow the (5) will duck in looking for the ball.
(1) and (3) will rotate up one spot to the left looking for the kick out or reverse pivot pass.
Another look they gave was the following...
(1) reverses the ball to (4) and then to (3).
(4) will fake the ball screen then sprint to the corner.
(5) will flash to the high post and receive the pass from (3).
After (3) passes the ball to the high post (5) he will set a down screen for the (4) to curl and get a 3 on the wing.
